Employment Information

This is a somewhat unique program mix because it covers a broad range of Cuban topics, promotes international knowledge and understanding, as well as utilizes sustainable transportation. Funds generated by the program are used for promoting sustainable transport, community-based tourism, and development projects.

Cuban nationals constitute most of the leader and assistant leader staff the program -- for many it provide a unique people-to-people and cross-cultural experience and a chance for them to see their own country.  Sometimes non-Cubans are employed as assistant leaders to help manage logistics, teach, translate, calm anxious nerves, maintain equipment and do the cycling as well. The pay will not make you rich:  All staff is hired in Cuba by Atenas de Cuba.  The program feeds, houses, and transports the staff around Cuba as needed.  Non-Cubans generally work on a volunteer basis -- no salary.

There are few openings and positions are highly competitive. Here are the criteria for selecting staff, somewhat in the order of priority:

  1. Fluency in English and Spanish.

  2. Knowledge of Cuba and detailed knowledge of the culture, history, natural science, politics, social development and economic activity of the program area.

  3. Fitness and skill to do the bicycling (cycling 100km, 60 miles easily in a day) and bicycle maintenance required.

  4. Leadership and a healthy lifestyle to lead a program where participants are of varied ages and may be under stress from culture-shock.

If you are interested in being on the staff, please provide us with more details on how you meet the criteria and which programs you interested in and available for.

Bests of luck with your search for adventure.

P.S. If your have friends with an interest in Cuba please feel free to tell them of the program. As the program grows we will have more need to hire people!   And, in all cases you are invited to participate on a trip.
