Bike Program

Thank you for your interest in our programs. Because of the regulation of both Cuba and the United States governments and the status of Atenas de Cuba and IBF (see License Status), with respect to their respective governments, procedures for this program are a bit convoluted. Participation on the Atenas de Cuba programs is available to donors of the International Bicycle Fund. As a "thank you" for donations of $300 or more (tax-deductible to extent allowed by law for U.S. citizens) donors will receive a program packet that will facilitate their participate on a Atenas de Cuba People-to-People program. There is a total of $690 in additional fees for participating on the program (except for the La Cuna program where the total is $890) that are paid directly to Atenas de Cuba and for the air travel from Cancun. Details on these fees are in the program packet and the "General Terms and Conditions". There are only 14 program packets for each program. When you send your donation, make sure that you send you name and contact information (mailing address, email address, phone number), the name and date of the program packet you want to: International Bicycle Fund, 4887 Columbia Dr S, Seattle WA 98108 USA. (Note: if all the program packets are taken for the program you request, you will be placed on a waiting list and your contribution won't be processed, unless a program packet becomes available.)To complete your registration and to better serve you, you need to complete the following five tasks. We are sorry for the extra paperwork. Perhaps it is a sign-of-the-times. Because of the unique nature of the program we want to verify that you understand the activities involved.
[Note: each document opens in a new window, closed the window to return to this page] If you don't want to use the documents on the Internet, we can email the document to you as attachments or we will snail mail you a packet with the document, per your instructions. The program packet contains important information on: air travel, preparing your bike, selecting personal equipment, health information, preparing for the cross-cultural experience, books to read, etc. If you would like to get started, there is a bibliography at www.ibike.org/bibliography. The program packet should answer most of your questions. Others have found it to be very helpful. If after you receive the packet you have any additional questions please feel free to contact us. If you have not already, we suggest that you start planning your air travel. If you are leaving from North America and want to work with a real person, we recommend Elizabeth Holmes Travel, 1-800-588-8361. Their prices are competitive and they understands the dynamics of these program. Travel insurance (trip cancellation/interruption, medical expenses, medical evacuation, baggage, travel assistance etc.) such as Travelex Insurance, is recommended. It protects you from the date of purchased so it also is worth considering early on. Please return the forms as soon as possible so that we can complete your registration and you will have maximum time to prepare. We look forward to your participation on these interesting programs. Sincerely, |
